Meta AI on WhatsApp is getting smarter: You will soon be able to edit and analyse images

Meta recently introduced generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) capability on its messaging app WhatsApp, and it has already become popular among many. It can be used similarly to ChatGPT with the ability to generate images without leaving the app.

It looks like the company isn’t done with Meta AI, as it has started testing a new AI capability on WhatsApp, which enables users to analyse and edit an image instantly.

On the WhatsApp beta version 2.24.14.20, users are being offered two new capabilities of Meta AI. They can upload a photo and ask questions about it, and they can also get that photo edited by AI using text prompts. Users can upload their images or capture one using the camera button on the bottom right corner. Meta also says the images uploaded will be analysed by AI, including facial features, and users can delete these photos at any time.

However, there is no confirmation currently on what level of image editing Meta AI can do on WhatsApp. Considering other AI-powered image editing tools, Meta AI should be capable of removing an object, removing and replacing the background, and also in tweaking the look of the image.

The Meta AI on WhatsApp is based on the company’s latest and most capable large language generative AI model Llama 3, which supports multimodality. It can understand text, voice, and images, and is also capable of generating responses in text, voice, and images.

Besides WhatsApp, Meta has also introduced AI into its other popular platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger. Across these platforms, users can access the chatbot to get a quick response or to generate an image for free.
